Seeing friends again

This evening I went to our Amy Cadet HQ at Waterbeach for the first time in months and months. I hadn’t been there for a long time even before the surgery and if it wasn’t for my Dad taking me there it wouldn’t have happened today. There was a purpose for the trip however, a meeting with the Commandant to discuss what changes are required to make the centre accessible to disabled Instructors and Cadets. Bob (fellow amputee, instructor and volunteer at OWR) met me there and the Commandant instructed us go around the building and identify the problem areas. It actually took a bit longer than I expected it to and there were a lot of things we identified. Built around 25 years ago the centre has absolutely no disabled facilities built into because at the time it was built they didn’t have to include these facilities. I will type up tonight’s findings and send them to the Commandant who will pass them on to RFCA (Reserve Force and Cadet Association) who hold the purse strings. I will keep you posted on progress.

The best thing about going over there was, of course, seeing some of the other instructors who I have missed. I got lots of hugs and kisses which was really nice and they made me feel like I had really been missed. It was just a shame that I didn’t have the time to just sit, chat and catch up with them. Sometimes it can be hard to go over there knowing it will probably be a long time before you go back there again. I know I have my parents here to talk to but I really miss seeing other people. Oh God I just wish I would hurry and get to a point where I can drive again, being without a car is like being without legs. To lose your independence and not be able to go any where you like whenever you like is just so frustrating.
