Where is the logic?

Some of you may remember that 14 weeks ago I mentioned I had sent off the application form for Disability Living Allowance. Not able to just tell them what care needs had increased I had to completely reapply. They say it can take up to 11 weeks to get a decision, that’s from the time they receive the application, but they have failed in their reply time. A decision has been made but I just don’t get it. I loose a leg, I need help with a bunch of stuff and there are things I can’t do at all, especially with the restrictions that have been placed on me (by physios and occupational therapy), and yet the care component of my DLA has not been increased. I mean am I being incredibly thick here or does that not make sense? Another amputee I know is getting the highest rate of both mobility and care components and they are in the same position as me. I am not saying that I want a higher rate if I am not entitled to it but what I do want is what I am entitled too and fair decisions across the board, what we want and what we get are two different things however. There is a slight silver lining to this cloud, the first is they haven’t taken everything a way from me as they have in the past, which means the second is I am entitled to a car under the Motability Scheme. I have had to send away to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) to let them know I have had the amputation, what medication I am on and that I have to have an automatic vehicle. Thankfully I am now off the Morphine which will help in the medication area, so now all I have to do is wait to get my License back before I can get out and get myself some wheels. I have wanted the Peugeot 3008 Crossover which has excellent fuel consumption and is higher than a normal car. The downside may be the boot size as I need to make provision for the wheelchair and Cody’s travel crate, no small order. As I don’t carry passengers that often I may have to leave the small split seat down or put Cody on the back seat with a seatbelt harness. The best thing will be to go to the showroom and try the boot out for sizes. I could get an estate car which would give me more boot space but the car would be more difficult for me to get in and out of, some market research may be needed here, I will keep you posted on progress.
